"Clinic waiting times and missing records"

About: Southend Hospital

Anything else?

I have been attending the Eye Clinic for many years now, with Glaucoma, I have only on one occasion, ever been seen within 30 mins of my appointment time. Once, actually been the last patient, with doctors going home, I had been forgotten. This last time, my appointment was 15.10pm, like many others attending I had long a delay in being seen, I waited until around 17.35pm to be seen (only to find my records were not available to the doctor). Also there were so many patients in the waiting room I counted at one point at least 12 having to stand, some very elderly, surely more chairs are not an issue. I would like to point out that this was no fault of the staff or doctors, their work load is horrendous in this department. Its akin to a cattle market. Recently my wife had an operation in the hospital and received excellent attention and care, so why oh why is the eye department so poorly funded and manned.

Dear Sir, I was truly sorry to learn of your concerns. We appreciate that the eye unit has issues surrounding waiting times and accomodation for waiting patients and work is ongoing to address this. If you would like to become involved in helping shape this work then please contact me via e-mail at pet@southend.nhs.uk and I will be happy to pass your details to the management team within the eye clinic. Kind regards Steve McEwen, Patient Experience Lead
