"Clear communication, compassion and dignity"

About: Weston General Hospital

Anything else?

My 84-year-old mother died in the Medical Assessment Unit last week. She had been unwell for some time and experienced a sudden decline. The staff in both A and E and the MAU were brilliant - they did everything they could to save her, were extremely clear in communicating the prognosis and the treatment options to us as a family and, when it became obvious that her illness was terminal, did everything they could to alleviate her pain and make her final moments comfortable and dignified. She was a nurse herself and would have thoroughly approved of their compassion and professionalism. It was such a comfort to us as a family to know she was receiving the best possible care and everyone we met, from consultants to the cleaning staff, was friendly and supportive to us in our loss. We cannot thank you or praise you highly enough - WGH should be very proud of their excellent staff.
