"stroke unit/infection ward"

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

Anything else?

my mother was admitted 5 weeks ago after having a major stroke, within the first week she had got an infection, followed by c diff which has been going on for four weeks. her diabetes is totally out of control, remaining at 27.2 most of the time and staff on the ward are completly ignorant about diabetes and the stroke as she is stuck on infection ward. have had to contact diabetic nurse myself who also commented that she has to keep telling staff on the ward to give mum insulin when her body dictates not when ward dictates. for the past 4 weeks on infection ward she has not been got out of bed at all as they do not have right chair for her and obviously do not have the common sense to arrange to get one from stroke ward. a few helpful nurses but in general they only ever say *no change* even when she has managed to speak a word. we had to ask them to change moms nightie after she had been in the same one for 3 days and also shocked to have a nurse walk out her room and leave door open half way through changing moms nappy and even worse was during visiting times! we got told off by a nurse for wearing an apron and gloves as apparently hand washing is enough, well thats not what your c diff leaflets says...no wonder bugs spread like wild fire!. just because my mom is 83 and unable to speak for herself and is totally vunerable does not give anyone the right to treat her like this, its truly disgraceful and the nhs should be totally ashamed
