"Problems with getting follow up appointments sorted at Northampton"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

My wife recently had an operation in Northampton General Hospital. On discharge she was told that she had an outpatient appointment a week the following Monday for removal of stitches.

She was not told the time or place for this appointment. I rang the ward to ask when the appointment was to be and was told by the Sister in charge that we would receive notification by letter.

On the Thursday before the appointment my wife rang the Fracture Clinic to be told that no notification had been sent but was given a time.

We were told at the appointment that my wife has to go back in 4 weeks time. The Nurse went to get the date and time sorted out - with no success. "I have left your notes with my manager who will get it sorted out and you will hear by post" she said. What are the chances I wonder?

Thank you for taking the time to inform us of the problems you encounted with your outpatient appointment.

I have taken your issue to the Directorate Head Nurse and we intend to address your points with the staff.
