"What a waste of time and NHS funds"

About: Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS)

(as a service user),

My 15-year-old son has a blood disorder so has been referred for further investigation.

I received a letter from TRAQS in November because you hadn't heard from me regarding booking an appointment. To be honest, I was totally confused, I was told by the doctor I would get an appointment through the post. I called the number and was informed that I would be able to have an appointment in either Walsall or Stafford.

I live in Shropshire so all my sons care notes would be no way local. I explained this to the gentlemen (who was really helpful) who said he would refer me to Shrewsbury, delaying my sons appointment.

My doctor had advised me to get more blood tests done so these would be ready for the appointment but this is nearly a month ago, so at a cost to the NHS these will no doubt have to be completed again.

What a waste of time and NHS funds.

Thank you for taking the time to write to TRAQS.

I am to note that your GP did not clearly explain that the management of your son's referral would be dealt with by TRAQS. Your GP should have given you our leaflet which explains the service we provide. TRAQS is all about patient choice and where possible we aim to book an appointment at the hospital of your choice on your behalf. However, we can not offer appointments at providers if there are none available. In the circumstances, to avoid any unnecessary delay we do try to agree an alternative location with you. If your preference is at a hospital that has no appointments then unfortunately you are put onto a waiting list which may result in some considerable delay. TRAQS has no control over hospital waiting lists.

I am sorry that to date you have still not received an appointment, TRAQS is fully that delays of this nature may give rise to considerable concern and anxiety. Whilst it is acknowledged that you would like to be seen at a local hospital, if on consideration you are able to travel to a hospital that has a bookable appointment please contatc TRAQS on 01952 580441 and we will do everything we can to speed up the process for you.
