"Penrice Birth Centre is the NHS at its best"

About: St Austell Community Hospital

Anything else?

I went to Penrice after giving birth to my first child at the Royal Cornwall Hospital because I needed to recover from a traumatic birth experience and get some support with breastfeeding. The facility is amazingly comfortable and relaxing and the staff were incredible. They helped me day and night to look after my little one, gain confidence and feel human again. Nothing was too much trouble and every member of staff was unfailingly helpful, supportive and kind. We stayed for two nights and they were happy to let me stay as long as I needed, but with the exceptional care and attention I received I soon felt ready to go home. Even though my daughter still couldn't get the hang of breastfeeding, the midwives and support workers never gave up on us, but neither did they make me feel pressured or guilty about it which is so often the case elsewhere. After the terrible experience I had at Treliske, I really wish I had chosen Penrice for the birth itself. There really should be more facilities like this and I can't recommend it hightly enough. Thank you to everyone who helped me throughout my stay, you all deserve a massive pay rise! Jill Noakes
