"Day surgery to remove endometrial polyp"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Arrived at drop off point in dark, very difficult to find this due to building work as poor signage. Husband dropped me off to park car at other side of hospital, made my way to SAL.

7am: Greeted by nurse in charge, who appeared to have a very bad cold. After sneezing and wiping nose he issued me with my wristband and took me to comfy lounge. My husband then joined me. Collected by same nurse to fill in paperwork but he was also checking people in so was interrupted about 5 times whilst doing my admission checks. I found this quite disturbing as I felt these were important questions.

Met anaesthetist who was a charming courteous man, later met surgeon to sign consent form, not much time to ask questions.

Sat back in lounge. It did get a bit chilly mid morning and a couple of elderly patients who were cold.

11am: changed into gown, taken to small waiting room, found this room a bit claustrophobic.

11:30 theatre nurse came. She was lovely, went through what was happening.

11:40 to anaesthetic room. Very relaxed atmosphere.

12:55 Next thing I knew, back in recovery room, looked after by a nurse

About 1:45 back in daycare ward having checks, cup of lovely tea and warm toast, lovely staff.

Home in my own surroundings by 4pm.

Well done Musgrove - this is obviously a good way of doing operations that do not need patients taking up medical beds

A little conveyor belt system at times, and lacked personal touch at times, but otherwise a good service as always. This was my first time with an operation and I was a bit worried but anaesthetist really put me at ease, an old school type of Dr. with excellent patient skills.

Many thanks!
