"Good Service from ENT"

About: Chorley & South Ribble Hospital

Anything else?

After finding a lump in my throat whilst shaving I was referred to the Rapid Access Clinic at Chorley where a biopsy was taken in the morning and I returned for the results the same afternoon. No cancer was found, but, after further biopsies and scans the doctor resolved that the swollen side of my thyroid should be removed to finally rule out any possibility of cancer. A partial thyroidectomy was arranged under the Day Case system. I was able to eat solid food soon after the operation. My voice was not affected and I had no drain, some pain, but the wound was smaller than I expected. There was a reasonable amount of swelling. My wound was closed by staples which were removed by my local practice nurse five days later. Steristrips were applied and the wound relaxed when they were removed and has benefitted from the application of cream. No cancer was found in the tissue removed from my thyroid. I was not put on thyroxene, but, five weeks later, I may be getting a prescription for a low dosage. I received good service and reassurance from the doctor, his colleagues and all the nurses. ENT is a busy, popular clinic and you may have to wait at times. Taking a biopsy cannot be rushed, and consultations regarding further treatments need to be thoughtful and detailed.
