I recently presented myself to rule out stroke following severe exercise. The A&E tam took my concern seriously and did the relevant tests in a timely manner. The nurses were very caring and provided tea and toast as I had missed breakfast. Because it was recommended I had a CT head scan I was moved to the acute medical ward (Anstey). In spite of no delay in scanning, I was left 6 hrs with no explanation for the delay, in spite of seeing lots of doctors in the vicinity. It would have been helpful/reassuring to know the reason for the delay - observation or 'normal practice'.

We thank you for your feedback. We cannot provide you with specific feedback due to the anonymity of the website, however we regret you had to endure a wait and can give several possible contributing factors as follows:- 1. CT Interpretation. Following the CT, the results will have to be interpreted by a Consultant Radiologist. This takes longer than the time for the actual scan. 2. Many of the doctors on Ansty Ward do not work there. Multiple specialty doctors including those from Surgery and General Medicine see patients in this department and they will not have been appropriate to treat you. 3. Observation. They may indeed have been a period of nursing observation which you were not informed of. A possible stroke is a serious diagnosis, so it would have been imprudent to discharge a patient with this possible diagnosis in a rapid manner. I hope this provides some answers to your concern.
