About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

Booked here to have our second baby after a really bad time at the LGH with our first. However, after today, we are thinking maybe a home birth would be better!! Had an Ante Natal scan (having had a previous scan in Gynaecology 4 weeks ago) and was given a due date of 2 weeks sooner than previous, and advised that in no uncertain terms, she was definitely right. The sonographer was very rude and really rough with me (I am already off work due to abdominal pains) to the point where I was in tears and had to ask her to stop. Sonographer then proceeded to tell 2 other members of staff in the waiting room that I was (quite rightly) annoyed, in my ear shot and offered no apology, despite having spoken to me like I was some kind of idiot and then gossiping about me to her colleagues. Reception staff of both Ante Natal Scanning and Ante Natal clinic are very rude and abrupt, and too busy chatting on the phone or to each other to acknowledge you. The only shining light of this visit was the lady running the Anti D clinic I had to attend after the scan, who sat down and let me explain why I was so upset (and by this point angry and crying uncontrollably) and was disgusted at the treatment I received at LGH during my previous labour and also at LRI today. The lady told me she had worked within the service for a number of years and found my experience unacceptable and frightening. The long and short of it? I was terrified enough of giving birth again after my horrible experience at LGH. Now it seems both the hospitals in Leicester are the same when it comes to Ante Natal care, so I am even more terrified!!
