"Child Multiple Food Allergies"

About: Crosshouse Hospital NHS Ayrshire & Arran University Hospital Ayr

(as a parent/guardian),

My baby was what multiple doctors deemed sicky, he would vomit constantly, he had a rash that no-one would diagnose, the rash as it was eventually diagnosed was uricartia. He was so underweight that the Health Visitor stopped recording his weight whilst telling me to just feed him. GP's and Paedatric Registrars misdiagnosed as Colic, Reflux, VURTI and GORD. They also refused to give him the milk he needed despite him choking on his vomit whilst he slept. One GP told me that he knew nothing about baby formula and asked me to explain the differences to him. After a 5 and a half month battle, 2 suspected meningitis scares, and my son being dangerously underweight we finally saw a Doctor who listened to us. She was brilliant, she agreed on what the allergies might be and prescribed the milk I'd been fighting for.

Dear Katie

Many thanks for using Patient Opinion to tell us about your 5 and half month battle and the very positive experiences you had with the Doctor who was able to help you with the issues that you had been concerned about.

I am pleased that you were satisfied with this, though concerned about all that you encountered before this. It is likely that there will be significant learning points associated with all of your other experiences - would you feel able to contact me to provide more information that can trigger a case review that could be used to work out areas for learning and improvement?

If so, please call me on 01292 513607 or email Craig.White@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Best wishes

Craig White
