"Basic Hygiene & Security concerns"

About: King's Mill Hospital

Anything else?

My mother suffered a stroke on13th October and sent to Kings Mill Acute stroke ward 53. She received very good care whilst here, but when transferred to ward 54 after a few days, the care she received was dramatically reduced. Once I arrived to visit again, I asked for a doctor to call me when suitable as i live in Essex and travelling is difficult, had to phone again as no one called. Mum's other visitors told me of heavily soiled clothes left in a bag that made the room smell really bad. When I spoke with nursing staff, told that this should not happen! I agreed, but it had... twice! Mum did not even appear to be cleaned properly and had to be cleaned by visitors! I had asked whether mum could have a radio in her room as no other distractions, and was told that this would be a good idea. Mum was later transferred to Newark Hospital on 13th November as this is much nearer for home village of Elston. When we arrived on our next visit on 5th we found that the Radio had not made it with her! Nurse @ Newark made contact with Kings Mill Ward staff who could not account for this! I understand that items of value like jewellery should not be kept in the room, but at some point, hospital staff should be made accountable for both basic care and security of patients, something sadly lacking in specific departments. Newark Hospital appears so far more caring and i would suggest that staff @ Mansfield Kings Mill should read some of their own posters that are in abundance throughout the hospital. I look forward to a response from the hospital administration.
