"A & E visit"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

Anything else?

After injuring my ankle I visited Shotley Bridge UCC to be told that I had to travel to UHND to have X-ray. On my arrival at Durham I had to wait over 1 hour to be checked in by reception staff before I could be seen by a triage nurse, my first contact with health care staff. Nurse was very helpful and sent me straight for X-ray, but I felt that I should have had X-ray on arrival as I'd already seen nurse at UCC. Radiographer was quiet and showed no interest in my injury, telling me to move my ankle even when it hurt badly. At this time I had had no pain relief at all. Returned to see nurse who told me, no fracture but rest my foot at home. No strapping needed, no assistance to walk, so had to hobble to my transport, still no pain relief offered. Very little advice offered from nurse as to how long I need to rest foot or what I would be able to do to reduce pain or swelling.
