"3 hour wait for 5 minute consultation"

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

Anything else?

Yesterday I had to attend for a check-up, my appointment was for 11.05. I signed in and had just sat down when I was called for an eye test which took 2 minutes. I then had to sit in the waiting area to see a consultant. People came and went, having had drops put in, scans, photos and then their consultation. I still sat there. Some patients I spoke to said their appointments were for 12.15,12.30, they had all had eye tests, drops put in and seen a consultant and left, I still sat there. I did ask and they just said my file was there on the table, but it seems that is where it stayed. A gentleman came through after having some photos done with his file in his hand. He did not even sit down, a consultant came out, took his file and called him in. Again his appointment was for 12.45. Still I sat there. In the end I spoke to one of the consultants and said I had to leave to catch my train. She then actually took my file from the table and gave it to my consultant. At 2.00p.m 3 hours after I arrived, I was finally called in, the consultation took 5 minutes. I do not mind waiting my turn and am very patient but I feel I was completely overlooked, I could have been still sitting there at the end of the day as files were being given to the consultants and mine just sat on the desk. I have had two operations and all the staff, nurses, doctors were very kind, considerate and attentive. So please, can somebody please sort the appointment system out as I have to come back again in March and am dreading it. Surely patients like myself who take 5 minutes could be seen inbetween new patients - something really needs to be in place.
