About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My son sat with a broken arm for two hours before being assessed by a nurse. A doctor was passing, saw the state he was in and immediately gave him morphine.

My point is, that a doctor should be the first port of call, not a receptionist. See a doctor immediately, who can straight away, action X-ray, medication, minor injuries queue or to be taken for additional assessment, bloods, ECG etc, then the booking in receptionist should come to the patient, with a portable device to take details. The triage system, should also then be followed up, by a nurse, however the more serious cases, or obvious injuries can be dealt with more quickly by an experienced doctor.
