About: Whiston Hospital

Anything else?

I have previously posted a rev regarding the treatment my Mum received at Whiston hospital, nothing but praise for all the staff. I wish to leave a special thanks to the two paramedics who where called out to bring my teminally ill Mum to hospital. I am sorry but I do no remember there names. However they covered the night shift Friday 16th August 2013. They had to deal with a very difficult situation which involved The Capacity Act and Acting In my Mum's Best Interest. As a Social Worker and an AMHP I fully understand the Capacity Act and the MHAct and I have been in similar situations but very different when it is yoour own famuly menber. My Mum's capacity was fluctuating and she had reached the point when she could not make an informed decision about her health and treatment. I thanked God for these paramedics as apart from the Locum Dr they where one of the few professionals who in my professional opinion acted in my Mum's Best Interest. One of the paramedics in particular endured a great deal of verbal abuse from my poor Mum who was having visual and auditory hallucinations. They paramedics enabled my Mum to go to hospital to receive the treatment she desparateley needed as smooth as possible, they stayed with Mum and her family via A+E and settled her on the ward. I need the paramedics to know how much difference they made to Mum and us as a family and to remember this the next time they have a similar situation. Before they paramedics saw Mum I asked them to think of her as there own Mum and to deal with this crisis as they would if it was there Mum. (I believe if professionals act in this way they will not go far wrong) I was not disappointed, they where fantastic and treated my Mum with dignity and respect and managed to get her to hospital with the least amount of distress for all parties and I thank then with all my heart. Mum died peacefully in hospital 20th August with her family at her bedside. Please try your best to find these Paramedics, sorry I do not have there names. I have sent a card via Whiston Hospital addressed to paramedics. Many many thanks. Pat and family.
