On Friday the 1st November I had to call an ambulance, as I was finding it difficult to breathe. I reached the accident and emergency department at 9pm. After a extremely long wait I was told that I need to be admitted into hospital. I was left on a bed in a cubicle and I didn't get taken to a ward until 5am!!. After a day the nurses said I had to move wards,me and the porter went to 2 different wards, when we got there the nurses on the ward told us they knew nothing about me coming here and they kept saying they didn't have beds. I felt isolated and neglected, as the porter left me in the hospital corridors by myself for 45 mins. The porter eventually took me to the gynaecology ward, and said that I was only in this ward because there's no other beds in medical units, which in my opinion is totally ridiculous! On the 5th night of being in hospital my worries began to arise. As I still wasn't told what was wrong with me and why i was here. Only being 18 years old I was so frustrated and fed up,because every time I would ask a nurse what my problem was,she would say wait for a doctor. After a whole week of being in hospital I wasn't given any medicine and I still hadent seen a doctor,I felt my symptoms even worse to what they had been when I called the ambulance. I felt it was time for my family to step in and really push the staff to see a doctor! After finally seeing a doctor I was told I need an endoscopy test done. I was taken down to the scan at 10am. I was told to wait in a wheel chair and somebody will be with me shortly. I was still waiting at 1:30pm! I witnessed people who came before me being treated and tested and there I was pushed a side in a corner! I kept asking the doctors how long left,they came across rude and ill mannered! They didn't understand my frustration of not being able to drink or eat all day. When I returned to the ward I asked the nurse if I could have something to eat,as I missed my breakfast and went well into lunch time. She didn't have one little thing to offer me! I had to starve until dinner time. When I was in a+e they put a needle in my left arm. This was placed right on my joint,which meant I was to bend my arm. And it restricted me from doing things. Just before I got discharged the nurse asked me why I had a needle in,I didn't know myself and nethier did she! I was put in agony and discomfort for no apparent reason. Yeah fair enough i understand the nhs hospitals can run short on beds,but don't put a patient in a ward and just leave them there and forget about them! I wouldn't wish for anyone to experience what I went through,and I'm so glad to be out of there!
