About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford) / Accident and emergency William Harvey Hospital (Ashford) / Paediatrics

(as a relative),

My grand daughter had been treated at William Harvey and was sent to London for specialist paediatric surgery. 2 days after we got her home the same symptoms appear so we called 111 who told us to go to A&E and see a paediatrician.

At the hospital a nurse rung the paediatrician but he would not see us and we could not go back to the children's ward.

We had to wait in the A&E que and be seen by another doctor, who after examining my grand daughter went away and never came back, when we enquired what was happening the nurses looked blankly at us. I offered to take my granddaughter back to London, at that moment a male matron introduced himself, made a few phone calls and we were admitted to the children's ward...Thank you.

Why is it when we have such complex needs that we had to wait in a busy A&E, not every child will have the matron attending to them, it was pure luck I feel.

Thank you very much for providing us with feedback. Please accept my apologies for your experience which falls short of what we would expect to happen. This must have been very stressful for you and your grand-daughter's family.

Please do email me your details so that we can follow this through for you and your family. We take feedback very seriously and use it to improve our services.

My email address is Julie.pearce1@nhs.net. I do hope that your grand-daughter is recovering from her surgery.
