"Concerning visit"

Anything else?

My fiancé had an operation on the 25th September, following which his surgeon retired 4 days later! He was due a 7-10 day stay in hospital and ended up in there for 3 weeks due to various complications. He was on ward 19 and we couldn't fault 99% of the staff there - helpful, friendly, caring and exactly who you would want looking after your loved ones. One or two nurses were awful. He was released, and was out for a week when he got an infection and was re-admitted - this time to the day care unit as there were no beds elsewhere, again we were very impressed with the nurses and the standard of care. Last week, we took him to a follow up appointment with his consultant (In Queen Marys) as he was very poorly, we were told to take him straight to QE and he would ring ahead and warn the team we were coming so he could be fast-tracked. We got there and no one had a clue why we were there! As he was so poorly he was treated quickly, but once he got stable he was more or less dumped in a side room in A&E, I waited an hour and had to go out and say "He was brought in with a very high heart rate and he is supposed to be on fluids, antibiotics and antisickness and nobody has come to even check he is ok!" Thank god I was there! They finally came and did that but we had to chase and chase to get any answers. The doctors said they would come back - they didn't! He finally got moved to ward 2 and this turned out to be an absolute shambles - no one knew anything, the doctors forgot about him and only came to see him once, the nurses had no idea what they were supposed to be doing for him and then to top it all they lost his notes!! It was a farce. We had to chase for him to be discharged as another day in there would have done him more harm than good. All in all, very disappointing and very concerning. The first two stays were great, as mentioned but this one has left a very sour taste in our mouths and a fear of having to return there. We still don't know if his notes have been found, or even if the doctors have realised he has gone!!!!!
