"I was visiting a relative on ward ..."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

(as a relative),

What I liked

I was visiting a relative on ward 9 they were admitted without the relative being notified within a reasonable time. The next day supposed to be having an MRI scan but got too late and didn't have it then the next day told they could go home for weekend but come back on the Mon afternoon for scan on Tues, later on Tues had scan then never seen a doctor or told anything about scan or ailments until 3 days later then had another scan and still no further forward. What a disgrace this is, ten days later and still sitting twiddling thumbs waiting when something should have been done. They now have to wait until next week to be told anything DISGUSTING. Told not to eat anything only to have fluids then when nurses come around with medication asked if kept any food down! What is that all about right hand not knowing what left hand is doing! No communication no wonder the NHS is in such a mess, all this time wasting.

What could be improved

When admitted not to have to wait ten days or more to be told what is wrong and what is to be done. For better communication and answers to questions from relatives would be a great help.
