"Day Surgery"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

Anything else?

I had foot surgery two weeks ago in the Surgery Centre. From the start the staff were warm and friendly introducing themselves showing me all the facilities, Pod, toilet, were to put my clothes etc. I had three checks of identity by HCA, Anaesthetist and Consultant. Also marking of the correct foot with the Consultant and nurse. I had my SATs done the nurse said I was cold at which she brought me warm blankets. I walked to theatre with the nurse and was immediately put at ease. My identiy checked again also the the foot mark. The next I knew I was waking up in recovery asking if I was OK and having a chat. When the staff were satisfied I was taken back to the POD were a member of staff was waiting for me. He brought me a cuppa and toast and made sure I was comfortable. I was then seen by a Physio who showed me how to use an elbow crutch ( as I have plaster on my foot). When I was ready I phoned for my relative to take me home, at which I was given my follow up appointment. I have had a 12 day wound check and all is fine. I will be in plaster for the next 4 weeks. In all, the Surgery Centre was nipping clean, the checks were thorough and the staff friendly and there for you.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely compliment, we'll ensure this is passed on to the surgery centre staff. We're glad to hear that your foot is healing well, and wish the remainder of your recovery to be speedy!
