"Short staff and confusion."

About: Broomfield Hospital

Anything else?

I was admitted to A&E with recurring heart problem where I was treated very well by cheerful staff. I was then transferred to a EAU ward where I waited all day to see a cardiologist but none appeared. The following day a cardiologist did arrive only to tell me my medication had been changed and told I could go home. That was around 10am. I was shunted down to the departure lounge where I sat for 7 hours waiting for my discharge papers and ambulance transport. After being told I may have to wait another 3+ hours I had to hire a wheel chair Taxi. What was very concerning was there was just one Nurse on the morning of the 6th Nov on the EAU ward when I left. I consider this to be dangerous to both patients and staff. A 11 hour day on your own on busy wards cannot be acceptable. Broomfield Hospital always seem to suffer a drastic shortage of permanent nurses and relies a great deal on agency staff who always seem to have an attitude problem and staying awake. I had to phone the pharmacy the following day to confirm medicine suitability and dosage.
