"Inconsistencies"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Anything else?

My Wife had an appointment at Medway on Monday 4th November. Here's what stood out for me on our visit. Nice shiny, sparkly display cabinets with information that nobody took any notice of in Out Patients area 5. Nice shiny poster of Directors and Managers at the entrance looking very pleased with themselves. Lovely. Exit out of the main Car Park was closed. One of the doors at the Main entrance was closed. People having to stand waiting for a blood test because it gets over crowded. Gents toilets at the Main entrance, all urinals out of order with the date 26-10-13 which I assume is the date they were shut off. Disabled Parking no longer free. Massive queue of cars making their way into the hospital affecting traffic on Rock Avenue. Very few green hand cleaning pumps. We were only in the hospital for 30mins and my Wife has an operation there in the new year. After what I saw, I'm dreading it. Imagine how my Wife feels.

We are sorry you got caught up in traffic accessing the site. Medway NHS Foundation Trust treats approximately 500,000 people a year and we are aware that the site can become congested at times. With this in mind the Trust has recently carried out a review of car parking and traffic management on the Medway site, and are pleased to confirm that a number of improvements that we feel will relieve some of the congestion, will be introduced shortly. These will include a new patient barrier system, new signage to include electronic space counts and new road markings. The Trust is also working closely with Medway Council on a number of possible options. As for disabled parking, the Trust reviewed car parking concessions in 2012 and a decision was taken to charge blue badge holders from 2 July 2012. This was to create fairness around concessions and to generate income for the Trust at a time when funding is being cut. The designated parking bays for blue badge holders were not changed. We are sorry you were inconvenienced by certain facilities being out of order during your visit, I can assure you that maintenance work is carried out as quickly as possible. Finally, hand rub is for point of care in places such as treatment rooms or at the bedside. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure both you and your wife that hospital staff will do everything in their power to ensure your wife’s stay in the New Year is a pleasant one. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Tim Cowell, Car Park Manager & Linda Dempster Head of Infection Control
