"Concerned about experiences of Inpatient Care"

About: Forensic mental health Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health (inpatient)

(as the patient),

I am a patient at a low secure unit. A couple of months ago I voiced concerns about inappropriate behaviour over an 18 month period I experienced from a handful of staff who work here.

Following an internal enquiry my concerns were seen as paranoid beliefs, that I misunderstood the staff behaviour.

However for the last two years I feel I have fully engaged with all the professionals including psychologists, psychiatrists, CPs, CPNs and attended every ward round, had weekly named nurse sessions and also saw the doctor on a weekly basis.

Nearly 3 months ago I was allowed unescorted leave which went well. That view seemed to change shortly after when I raised concerns about the staff behaviour and it seemed that was when I was seen to have paranoid beliefs.

Following a meeting recently I have been informed I will be moved to a medium secure unit because I no longer meet the criteria where I am. I feel a deep injustice has occurred and raising a concern about staff behaviour has resulted in me being moved backwards and having a setback. I am happy where I am and would prefer to stay here.

Dear Passage 344,

We are sorry that you have felt distressed by your recent experiences, and that your treatment pathway has changed. We are aware that you have shared your perceptions about this with your clinical team, and we urge you to continue to do so. We are not however, in a position to discuss your individual care and treatment on Patient Opinion. We will alert your clinical team to your posting and ask them to discuss this further with you as soon as possible. As before the Directorate’s Clinical Director will have oversight regarding your care.

Andy Latham,

General Manager
