Had partial bowel removal after cancer discovered. first class service from all involved. The consultant was very professional but down to earth, quite funny; nothing like 'James Robertson Justice' in the "doctor in the House" film. Absolutely made you feel important and comfortable. So was the anaesthetist. The doctor and his fun chemo service; very caring and helpful, in spite of poisoning me every 2 weeks! he even laughed at my jokes, and no one else does. all the nurses in the Cavell Unit were brilliant also. Of course if I was super fussy, I might have had a slight complaint about the odd thing, but you have to take into account just how busy everyone is and how much pressure is put on them all due to financial constraints, none of which is anyone's fault, other than the massive increase in our population for one reason or another. Pity about the lack of entertainment on the wards, although the food was the subject of mirth, (but I am not really complaining) I do hope you do not destroy this culture too much. Dewsbury Hospital was very good in my opinion and I am grateful for the help I was given. I find a different atmosphere prevalent in Pinderfields in some areas, although even here I considered my treatment pretty good. Ian McCabe
