"5 hour wait in A&E"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

Anything else?

On the 25th of June having returned from Turkey the previous evening & after ringing 111 was told to proceed to the walk in centre for assessment. This I did & the 2 nurses I saw there sent me to A&E, with instructions that I be seen immediately, but the triage nurse did not read my notes properly & sent me to the waiting room. This was a leg injury that had been operated on in Turkey & required further investigation as I was only allowed home on the understanding that I went to the Hospital. They had removed 8 blot clots & a huge haematoma in Turkey, this had to be done to save my life & allow me to fly home. So @ the end of my 5 hour wait in A&E I retrieved my paper work @ which point the triage nurse must have know I was @ my wits end with the wound leaking all over the floor, she made me an appointment for the following morning @ the fracture & trauma clinic for 10 am. I was seen by two doctors who both agreed to admit me & operate that evening @ the end of their list, as the wound was swollen & needed further surgery. This was done @ 8pm on Wednesday the 26/06/2013 & a further operation was performed on Friday 28/06/2013.I was on ward 35 for my whole 12 day stay & I have to say the ward doctor's, the staff nurses, ward nurses who are wonderful, the ward auxiliary staff, housekeeping & the admin staff were all wonderful to me & despite being in hospital recovering from the operations, I had a good laugh with the patients who were less fortunate than me & couldn't get out of bed without the help of the nurses. I formed friendships while in there, some of which I am still in touch with, even though one of them was from London up in Blackpool on holiday. So thank you ward 35, you truly are Angels.

We are sorry to hear that you experience poor care in our A&E department. These concerns have been passed to the A&E team for investigation. We welcome all feedback, as this helps us to improve the care we deliver. I will ensure that your comments relating to ward 35 are sent to the Ward Manager to share with the nursing team. Many Thanks Andrea
