On 29th September 2013 in the early hours, my husband had a stroke. We took prompt action by calling 999. In a short time an ambulance arrived, the paramedics were kindness itself to us all and also very efficient. They explained everything they were doing and what was to be done next. We arrived at A & E at Airedale hospital and again were treated with kindness and efficiency with explanations all the time. Within a short space of time my husband was transferred to Ward 5 and from then on for just over four weeks my husband was treated very very well. The staff on the ward are all so very kind and caring. Nothing is too much trouble for them all. We were given clear explanations all the time. We were greeted with smiles and kind remarks during our daily visits and encouraged to help in every way we could. We never felt we were in the way during the busy day on the ward. Speech therapists and 'Physios' were very supportive too as were the Occupational Therapists who guided us through the weeks and our homecoming. This ward showed to us what team work and excellent leadership is all about. Whatever the eventual outcome of my husband's illness we have no doubt as a family that 'Dad' was afforded dignity, and cared for lovingly and efficiently. Our walks along the corridors showed a staff who smiled as we passed, 'stood back' as we walked slowly by and in every way made us feel confident that we were in safe hands.
