"I don't recommend that hospital to anyone!"

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

Anything else?

My date of due was on 31.09.13,, Monday, it was my first baby. On Tuesday I phoned the hospital, because I had the back pain all day and I was told to go lye in the bath and have some paracetamol. I did that, but I didn't take paracetamol, because I was scared of I couldn't recognize the right contractions if I have too much painkillers. The pain was gone after and for another few days kept catching me from time to time. It was worst on Friday and at night when was really bad, I phoned again. They told me the same again, the problem was I don't have a car and I live far from Lancaster. After some time in the bath in so much pain, I phoned again, so the ambulance arrived. I gave a birth in the hospital not much time later (I was in there about 12p.m. and my baby was born 1.45.). It was obviously too late for any pain relief, but that is understandable, they counted my contractions and they thought I was going to give birth few hours later, noone expected that so fast. On Sunday morning my boyfriend visited me and asked when will I leave the hospital, because we don't have a car, we have to ask someone to give us the lift, so we need to know it early enough. They said maybe in few days. Then few hours later I was told to leave the hospital! My boyfriend was in work I told them I couldn't be back that day. The midwife asked if I had a pram, so I could go by a train! I have bought the car sit only for that day, although I don't have a car, before midwife told me I had to come back from hospital by a car. I don't know how they wanted me to go on my own with the pram and newborn baby on the train... First I almost gave a birth in my bath at home, then that train... Never again

We’re really sorry you had such a difficult experience, in in particular had the confusion over your discharge. We’d really like to investigate to find out what went wrong and if there are any lessons we can learn for women in the future. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01539 795457 to allow us to look into your care. Many thanks and all best wishes for the future
