Anything else?
I had fantastic care from 1st appointment through to, pre op, admissions ward, surgical/theatre team, ward 5 night staff and follow up post THR by phone but ward 5 day staff were another thing altogether. I had to beg for the pain relief, despite it being prescribed, leaving me in tears on one occasion. Their failure to allow me to keep my pain bearable led to an extra night in hospital. There was a distinct lack of eye contact from staff and a feeling that they could not be bothered with me As a nurse myself I am very aware of how busy a ward can be but the day staff always found time to sit at the computer laughing at the screen and sit in the office laughing. The night staff were a godsend, as soon as they came on duty the whole ward atmosphere lifted and the patients began to smile and laugh with the staff. Pain relief, if needed was always given on time without having to ask/beg for it. I would still go back to Wrightington Hospital for treatment but would be unhappy if I had to be nursed on Ward 5 during the day. I would ask to be nursed elsewhere and go to the ward at night. Not sure if I would recommend Wrightington to a female who may have to go to ward 5 in the day time.
