"No problems with treatment "

About: East Ayrshire Community Hospital

(as the patient),

I had an appointment at the Oncology department which was rather late. When we arrived at the hospital it was raining very heavily and I parked our car near the main entrance. Due to my condition I am not very mobile and with the heavy rain I parked where I could. When we returned to the car there was a note on the windscreen saying I was in an area where I should not be but no explanation why. This upset my wife – I don’t know who left the note but if they had come into the hospital and found us to explain why it would have been much better.

The treatment I received in the Oncology Department was excellent, no problems with that at all. I also receive regular physiotherapy at the Kirklandside hospital, this is very good also.

Just one other thing, at the Cummnock Hospital when it was raining water was coming off the canopy at the main entrance. It really affects people who cannot move quickly having to cope with the rain and then the additional off flow. Can something be done about this?

Dear Patchy503

Many thanks for using Patient Opinion to provide feedback on your recent visit to East Ayrshire Community Hospital. I am pleased to hear that your treatment from the Oncology and Physiotherapy teams has been excellent.

I am sorry that you were not taken on time for your appointment and that there were problems with parking near enough to the entrance to minimise problems getting into the building given the mobility problems you experience. I can understand the upset as a result of receiving a note on your windscreen, compounded by the fact that it doesn't seem to have been clear about the problem with parking and what should have been done instead. Thank you for highlighting the issue of off flow of the rain.

I have passed details of all of these issues to our Director of Corporate Support Services this afternoon, with a request that he assign someone from his team to review all of these issues. If you would like to speak with someone personally to share this experiences then please contact Kate.MacDonald@aapct.scot.nhs.uk and she will facilitate this.

If not, I will post details as soon as we have them about how we can learn and improve as a result of your valued feedback,

With best wishes,

Craig White

Hello again,

I learned today from our Directorate of Corporate Support Services that East Ayrshire Community Hospital facilities are run by European construction group BAM. See this link for more details:

http://bamppp.com/projects/east-ayrshire-community-hospital

We have asked them to look into the issues that you have raised. I will let you know as soon as I hear back from them.

Best wishes

Craig White

Hello again,

Our colleagues at BAM have indicated that they will endeavour to refrain from use the notice that they put on cars as a method of deterrent. I've also been thinking about this now that I have seen a copy of the sign and will suggest to them that if they are using the sign they consider a more personalised touch, perhaps by including a name and contact number if there is any way that local staff can support problems with parking or access for future visits.

The water coming off the canopy is being looked at by the staff as a matter of urgency and they have confirmed with me that remedial works will be carried out as a priority.

I hope that this is helpful and you won't hesitate to share any further feedback, reactions or questions either by contacting us or posting on this site.

Best wishes
