"The lack of care for my mother"

I feel my Mother died partly because of the after-care treatment she received where she had to get out of bed, even after myself and my sister had requested that she remain in her bed. This is because we understood that our mum would only be slid across onto a pressure mattress there would be no need for her to get out of bed. This didn't happen. We feel the nursing staff overruled our wishes and had our Mother get out of bed, even when she was so unwell having had two collapsed lungs and recovered.

When mum was able to get back in bed, I understand she used the support over her head to pull herself up, on doing so, she collapsed and died. I and my family are scared that too much pressure had been placed by the nursing staff on getting our Mum out of bed and that this would have made her very anxious and may have contributed to her efforts to overexert herself when getting back into bed. The lady opposite my Mother called to me and said, ‘your mum put up a good fight this morning’.

When I and my family arrived at the hospital it seemed to us no-one had the decency to come and talk to us about what had happened to our Mother especially when she was due to come home just days later. We had to go looking for nursing or clinical staff for someone to tell us what had happened.
