"The nursing staff at all stages ..."

About: Leighton Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The nursing staff at all stages throughtout my relatives period in this hospital, worked continously to provide a quality service with limited resources.

Nursing & therapy staff, keep patients and relatives informed and explain proceedures fully.

What could be improved

Hygiene, staff need to ensure that they wash their hands and use hand gells between each patient contact, i was appauled to see mud on the coridoors and dry blood.

Sharing of information from the trust near where my realtive lives should have been saught as a result, my relatives recovery was comprimised and as a result he was rushed into another trust that could deal with his condition more appropriately, however the nursing & therapy staff were excellent and fully understood the difficulties of travelling 50 mls.

Consultants and SHO's do not liase effectively with the whole team.

Thank you for your positive comments about your stay in hospital.

The Trust now has a Hand Hygiene Focus Group and the group will be working with Ecolab installing Gel Dispenser's at the bottom of every bed.

Gel Dispensers are located at the entrance to each ward and in corridors, and entrances. We are also looking at signage and other methods to raise the awareness of hand hygiene e.g. gelling and washing hands.

The next edition of the Patient and Staff newsletter "Keeping in Touch" will contact further details.
