"The care did not meet my son's needs."

Anything else?

Mostly staff did not know how to care for my son. They used the wrong approaches and techniques. Some staff were aware of his needs, but still the approaches taken seamed very clinical and authoritarian when a flexible compromising approach should have been taken. My son has got lost in a mental health system that he should not be in. When he was first admitted to hospital he was ill, however, several months later he is no longer ill, he just needs help to live in the community and I feel everyone has let him down. Last time he was discharged from hospital he was supposed to have aftercare which meant he should have had support to live by himself in the community, but he did not get this support and consequently his placement broke down and he ended up back in hospital where he has been for several months. The staff do not understand his condition, he does not have a mental health disorder, he has a pervasive developmental disorder. He is in the wrong setting and cannot get out of hospital despite having good behaviour and complying most of the time with requests asked of him. Furthermore he feels de-humanised as his rights are taken away from him. My son is not a danger to himself or anyone else yet he is being kept against his will in a mental health hospital.
