About: University Hospital Aintree

(as the patient),

What could be improved

I have just read the article in the Daily Post regarding the need to police the hospital because of an increase in attacks on staff from the public. In recent months I have entered both Aintree and the Royal hospitals and received an antagonistic reception.I suspect the disgusting welcome was due to having an overworked stressed staff. I suggest that the hospitals would do better to spend money on security staff rather than policeman to lesson the extra demand door entry systems put on staff who already have enough to do.

Rather than a zero tolerance approach I think the hospitals need to remember that the public are likely to be in an emotional state of mind when they come to hospital and that they need a sensitive attitude NOT A ZERO TOLERANCE ATMOSPHERE which is likely to inflame situations.

Please remember that the first person that you meet when entering a hospital sets the scene for what is likely to follow and therefore needs to have a sensitive, professional manner.

Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has implemented a number of programmes designed to ensure that patients are treated with courtesy at all times. At the same time we want to provide staff with immediate and robust support in the event they are faced with aggressive members of the public.
