"Basic care overlooked"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

Anything else?

My daughter was in this unit for almost 2 weeks and during that time she refused to eat 7 meals, not once did the staff ask her why she wasnt eating and given the fact that she was 34 weeks pregnant with twins I was astounded by this as surely the first rule of basic care is to ensure people are eating and drinking? She wouldnt eat the food as it was disgusting, she asked for a jacket potato and when it arrived they "couldnt find" any butter for it! Her bedside cabinet was cleaned once in all the time she was there and the ensuite she shared with the room next door was also being used by next doors partner and her children! Staff did not communicate with her or each other. One staff member was telling her she could go home and another was telling her that she would be staying until she had babies. They were asking her why she had been prescribed (by the hospital) certain drugs! Surely the person who prescribed them should have been asked that question. However some of the nurses where lovely but when basic care is overlooked that goes out of the window i'm afraid!
