I was referred to the infant feeding coordinator at Tameside hospital with a view to having my sons tongue tie cut. I sat with Helen Howard and her colleague and explained my son's full feeding history including a list of all other medical professionals that we had seen and she also watched him feed.
She immediately identified that the noise my son made when feeding along with the medical details I gave her wasn't normal and suggested there may be more to this. I saw an ear nose and throat specialist who diagnosed laryngomalacia just as Helen had hinted at.
She could have easily have cut his tongue to solve the problem, but she took the time to check his full extensive history, along with my breastfeeding situation with my older child and we decided the procedure was thankfully unnecessary!
Her knowledge was extensive and second to none and a potentially serious condition was identified that had so far been missed.
Thank you so very much!
