"Son's hand injury"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a carer),

My teenage son injured his hand through a freak accident with his brother earlier this year. We took him to our local A&E Department where he was patched up but due to the type of injury they referred him to the Queen Victoria Hospital.

He was assessed and found that he had almost severed a tendon in his hand in twpo places (two days before the start of his GCSEs). He required surgery and subsequently Physiotherapy. I can say from the very beginning our our involvement we were very impressed with the level of care and treatment given. The thing that made our experience so great was the attitude and professionalism of the staff involved. My son was treated with great care and compassion, the Physios were absolutely fantastic. On every occasion we visited (and there were many) they looked after him really well and helped him towards a full recovery. All of this was happening through my sons's GCSE exams a very anxiety provoking time for him.

I would also like to add that the efficiency of the service was as good as the care and treatment.

Thank you

PS my son did really well in his exams and has made a full recovery
