"Exemplary care for suspected brain haemorrhage"

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

Anything else?

I just wanted to drop you a line to give you feedback on the care and service I received at Cheltenham General Hospital last week. After a consultation with my GP in Tewkesbury following blurred vision and extreme headache on Friday 11th October, I was referred to A&E at Cheltenham with a suspected sub arachnoid haemorrhage. After initial assessnment, I was transferred to Acute Care Unit C to await a CT scan and lumber puncture. I was admitted overnight to await the scan the following nmorngin, and had the lumber puncture procedure around four hours afterwards. Witht the results of the CT scan clear, and the spinal fluid viulaly clear I took the decision to discharge myself and await the final results of the LP from the comfort of my own home. The standard of care I received exceeded all my expectiations. From the initial assessment to the discharge procedure, I was treated with calm attention, respectful dignity and patient responses to my concerns. Every member of your staff from the porters to the consultants were a real credit to the NHS, and to them I owe a huge debt of gratitude. In particular I owe my sincre thanks and genuine appreciation to the wonderful nursing staff on the ward, the charming and compassionate doctor I saw most and her gentle and confidence-inspiring colleague with whom she performed the lumber puncture. I would very much appreciate it if you could forward my thanks onto these wonderful people, and even more so if they are given the commendation they so richly merit from the NHS. Please do me this one further courtesy; they deserve to feel appreciated fopr the work they do. I’m afraid I wasn’’t given one of the tokens for the ‘friends and famly’ test I saw advertised, but if I had, I woud most surely have placed it in the ‘extremely likely’ box. Thank you once again for the care I received, it was out of all proportion to the small contribution I make to the NHS each month and made me feel genuinely proud to be citizen of a country that provides such exemplary state-funded health care. Kindest regards, James Blockley.
