"Long time beneficiary of Cumberland Infirmary..."

About: Cumberland Infirmary

Anything else?

Going back to pre NHS in 1948, in fact to pre-2nd world war I have every reason to be grateful for the medical and nursing care I have received. I have always felt 'safe' in their hands and the caring atmosphere which I have appreciated. They now cater for a much larger population and cope well with it although I get the impression that the administration seems to absorb more of the resources and struggle with possibly a different mind-set to the medical and surgical staff. A major problem with the finances would seem to stem from the PFI initiative which does not appear to have been well thought through. Is this because those involved feel they have to follow what is perceived to be the latest 'wisdom' and follow my leader? I admire the do'ers rather then the talkers by the way. I always met the do'ers. Thank you and I hope you are uplifted by my words as I think very kindly of our Cumberland Infirmary. I am 84 now thanks to you and remember climbing through the window of the nurses home which was the building to the left of the new Hospital entrance. Happy days.

Dear Mr Smyth Thank for taking the time and trouble to add your thoughts to the NHS Choices website and we enjoyed reading about your experiences of the NHS over many years. Our aim is always to provide a high quality and caring service to our patients.
