Whilst in hospital for the delivery of our son, we found all patient areas to be spotlessly clean, staff to be courteous and caring and we found that we were provided with the correct amount of information about the care and choices when it came to the health of both mother and baby. It was very reassuring to witness well though out procedures in operation between healthcare staff and patient to ensure that decisions such as issuing medication (even something as run-of-the-mill as paracetamol) were taken correctly thus minimising the chance of a mistake occurring. This was particularly evident in the Labour Ward, where the use of colour coded records for mother and baby's heart-rates and other medical information allowed an excellent hand over between midwives at shift change leaving us very happy that all key information had been passed on successfully. Following our son's birth, mother and baby were moved to Ward 19, where both were taken care of mother recovered from surgery and baby spent his first few days. Staff in this ward were attentive, caring and knowledgeable, offering practical help with feeding, clothing and bathing our son. We believe that the ward is a temporary facility as the hospital are currently renovating another ward to provide a brand new postnatal facility. Although an older ward, again it was spotlessly clean and offered a welcoming environment for both parents and baby.
