"Lack of organisation of weekly meeting timetable..."

Anything else?

In the Mother and Baby Unit patients are often given very short notice about a meeting or an OT activity or treatment. Sometimes meetings and OT activities are arranged in the same time slot. It would make sense if each mum(patient) were given a weekly diary page. They could stick this on the wall of their room with all the meetings , therapy times and other activities printed on it. Then there would be no missed meetings etc . I'm sure the hospital IT dept could come up with an easy to use application in Outlook or Google that would fit the bill.

Dear anonymous

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment about your experience on the Mother and Baby Unit. The team scheduling activities that clash with one and other must be frustrating and your suggestion sounds like a very simple solution. I have forwarded this to the Ward Manager and asked her to respond, when she does I will post it here. In the meantime please feel free to post any further improvement suggestions and we will be happy to look at them.

Kind regards

Bill Berry

Hello Anonymous

I'm Marcella Vent and am currently the Acting Ward Manager on the Mother and Baby Unit (MBU). Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. We really like your idea of a “weekly diary page” and will definitely consider creating something like it in the near future to help mums on our ward have more control over their individual weekly timetables.

The system we have in place at present is that on admission each mum will spend time with one of our occupational therapists and together they create an individualised weekly OT timetable which can then be stuck on their bedroom wall. The whole week of activities is then printed an A4 sheet of paper.

Thanks to your suggestion, we will now encourage mums to input their personal clinical meetings and ward rounds onto their OT timetable so that they have a structured weekly plan of activities and appointments which are easy to view and access. We hope that these timetables help to avoid clashes of meetings and allow for better communication between MBU staff and patients.

Regards

Marcella Vent
