" Chesterfield Royal - praise for A&E plus Stavely ward but poor food"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

(as the patient),

I came home one day with violent pains on my right side, then got worse by the afternoon. My husband phoned for the paramedics.

The East Midlands ambulances services were brilliant. The two paramedics were called Ian and Chris. They were very nice guys, superb, did everything. They made sure I was comfortable before they moved off.

They arrived in less than 10 minutes, very quick.

I was in hospital for 13 days. First arrived in A&E then to the accident and management unit until a bed was found. Which eventually was, and was put on the Stavely ward.

It was found that a nerve had been damaged due to my previous colostomy reverse operation.

I now attend the pain clinic.

Staff

The nurses were brilliant, they attended to me when I was in pain, were always there.

The treatment was excellent, can’t fault anything.

There names were Tracy, Fiona, Jane plus many more, but can’t remember all of them.

The house officers were all good, Dr Lynne Dixon and Dr Vicky Greenwell.

Thankyou to all.

Food

None of the patients were happy with the food, we complained. I’m glad I didn’t depend on the food to get better. The custard looked like water. I wasn’t that bothered because I didn’t much anyway, but my husband brought food in for me.

Cleanliness

Penny the cleaner was fantastic, she disinfected everything. I was MRSA checked with swabs, everything was washed, all the beds, dusted, sills, curtains etc 10 out of 10.

All in all Chesterfield is very very good.
