"I visited Hope Hospital today ..."

About: Salford Royal

(as the patient),

What I liked

I visited Hope Hospital today (Sat 12th July 2008) and was given a prescription for the pharmacy.I encountered an unbelievable lack of knowlege from your staff as to the whereabouts of the out of hours Pharmacy and was directed to three seperate places all of which were closed. Despite bringing this to the attention of your management over 12 months ago (and being given a response that it will be sorted) I still don't see any improvement as to the signage for the pharmacies. As someone who is in great pain hobbling about on a stick ( and I am one of the better cases) who finds it difficult to walk, I need the excercise like I need a hole in the head!

Your booking in facility didn't work ( the computer had no record of me) so that was a waste of time again; despite patients being directed to the pc's near the old reception area that I thought were there for the purpose?

In general I think most of your staff are brillient and cope really well under the circumstances but when is your management going to do a Safety Audit and flag the total lack of signage up as a hazard and get something done about it?

What could be improved

Employ some one in management that knows what it is like from a patients perspecive and excerise some authority over a lot of the things that are not right just now.

How are you going to go on (God forbid) in the event of an emergency and in the event of a mass evacuation.

It would be chaos.

Someone needs to be held responsible for these problems....there are enough people walking about with clip boards!

We are sorry to hear about your experience. The pharmacy is signposted from the entrance to the outpatient department and from other areas of the hospital too. There are also notices at the outpatient department detailing its opening times and the location from where prescriptions can be collected when the outpatient pharmacy is closed. We are looking at sign posting at the moment so will bear in your mind your comments.
