"Good but for minority."

About: Southmead Hospital

Anything else?

I stayed on U Ward after my procedure for a few days and on the whole had excellent treatment. The majority of staff are polite, considerate and caring while showing empathy and respect. I was though disappointed to see one patient who was in considerable discomfort waiting for his pain relief while the nurse who was looking after him prioritised discussing her recent holiday in Barbados with another nurse while stood well within earshot in the corridor outside of our room. Other than this one incident I found the nursing staff (including assistants and students) to be willing to help in anyway they can. The same can be said for the receptionist who helped me contact a relative and the cleaning staff who we're engaging and conversational while going about their work.

Dear Anonymous - thank you for taking the time and trouble to post your views of the Urology Service and U Ward at Southmead. I am pleased that you found your stay to be so positive and that all the staff acted in a professional manner, with just one exception. It is difficult to comment on the circumstances in respect of the patient waiting for pain relief, as I do not know the background to the delay, but clearly staff need to be aware that discussing their private matters on the ward can be interpreted as inconsiderate or uncaring, even if this is not the case. Your comments have been shared with those involved via the service manager. I hope that you are fully recovered very soon. Kind regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team Manager
