"A day patient"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

Anything else?

What an absolute disgrace: for a day appointment scheduled for 12.15 pm and was not seen until 4.00 pm for an hour. Then, having been told it would be ok to be picked up at 8.30 pm was unable to get discharged until 11.00 pm because of paperwork remaining unsigned. Finally got out feeling completely shattered, exhausted, frustrated and appalled that this hospital feels it 'good care' to treat people this way.

We are extremely sorry to read your comments about your experience of coming into hospital for a day procedure with our vascular team and this is certainly not the experience we would want our patients to receive. We completely understand that to wait from 12.15 until 4.00 pm is an extremely long time, particularly when you are feeling anxious. Sometimes however, our day surgery patients do undergo some delay because of other emergencies, but if this was the case we would have expected you to have been kept fully informed. Delaying your discharge because of paperwork is also not the experience we would expect or want for our patients and we can only offer up further apologies for this additional delay. Without knowing the individual details it’s difficult to comment further but we would be very happy to discuss this with you in more detail so we can fully understand what went wrong and try to offer you a better explanation of what happened. If you would like to take the opportunity to do so, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01932 723553 and they would be happy to arrange this for you.
