"Staff is chatting in the corridors despite crowds..."

About: Newham General Hospital

Anything else?

Not happy with their service at all! Each and every appointment was delayed by at least an hour to an hour and 40 min. Staff is chatting in the corridor. During one of my visits senior staff (judging by the tone) had to tell them off and point to long queue of patients. On one occasion I was running late, so thought will call to let them know. Phoned them several times during 40 min period, no luck- nobody was picking up. I arrived 10 min late, told them that I called several times to inform them, asked if they have the phone at all as none was visible on the desk. Receptionist explained that due to shortage of staff phones were disconnected as there is no one to answer. Whilst waiting, tried to call phone numbers given and there was no sound of phone ringing at the desk at all!!! Unbelievable!!! I had my blood test to check sugar level. That was at 8.30 in the morning. Arrived at 8.15 with my four year old, hoping to get him to school by 9.30. Got one ticket from ticket machine at the entrance. Number 13. Doors were still closed, opened around 8.35. There were already around 20-25 people waiting. Everybody found somewhere to sit, when suddenly one member of staff started to tell people sitting on the left next to entrance they must leave waiting area as there is not enough space for everyone and these seats are not for people waiting for blood test. That was in a very loud voice and rude tone! After 10min of waiting the man came out from blood test room and said they have a `special queue` for GTT patients and we need to get some other tickets from him. He started giving very `tired` pieces of paper with GTT__ numbers. So those that were seated and waited for a long time had the last tickets, bu those that just walked in and where looking for a seat or information, got first tickets! I was now 26th, not 13th anymore! Not fair at all! He also collected ordinary blood tickets from GTT patience. Ordinary tickets were called on screen immediately, just there were no patients other than GTT! 1-26 were called and nothing! Two hours and 15 min later my test was finally done! Not looking forward to having my baby there, unfortunately they started accepting patience by post codes now!
