"Fertility treatment"

About: Liverpool Womens Hospital

Anything else?

My partner and I attended here for IVF treatment as it was our nearest centre. The staff were lovely. The procedures were conducted by nursing staff. We only saw a doctor when it was all over. The treatment itself consisted of many appointments, scans and tests over a few months and was quite stressful. It is very difficult to fit around working. The unit was modern and comfortable with private rooms. We did find communication poor on some occasions. When planning to go in for one particular procedure we checked in advance of the day whether my partner had to stay whilst I had my procedure, as he had a very important work commitment that day, but we would of course rearrange the appointment if need be. We were reassured that he didn’t need to be there and told he could leave the hospital after straight after dropping me off. However, on the day when checking in for the procedure they insisted that he would had to stay the whole time, causing much inconvenience for his work and colleagues that day and wider implications to his organisation. Although thankfully his workplace were understanding, we were wrong to trust them on this. Insisting that you have an empty bladder for a test, but then asking for a urine sample straight after the procedure doesn’t make sense! We were disappointed to be informed that most embryos cannot be frozen, so if unsuccessful the whole procedure would have to be repeated from the start. The procedure wasn’t successful. However, to our surprise and after many years we ended up having a healthy baby naturally! Did not give birth here though, so can’t comment on that!
