"Appalling Treatment For The Elderly"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary

Anything else?

My Aunt who is 88 was admitted on Tuesday evening. We waited all night, service was slow, waiting for various people. Had to leave her there. Admitted to clinical decisions, trying to get answers was like pulling teeth. Short staffed with other staff filling in. poor nurses run off their feet. Finally spoke to A doctor Wednesday evening told I needed to speak to Aunts doctors because they were missing information due to Aunt having mixed dementia, Rang up morning after, spoke to nurse told her this, she was obstructive. Didn't lose my temper but was angry. Nurse eventually rang me and we sorted it out went to see Doctors, waited three hours no doctors. Told there was emergency. Asked for them to ring me, to make appointment 4 days later not seen a specialist and weekend is beginning. This is the worst hospital ever, do not come here if you have a choice. last night Aunt was in same nightie, had not been out of bed, staff thought she was bedridden, which she isn't.. They don't seem to realise she has alzheimers either they don't know because they have not asked.

Thank you for your posting in respect of the treatment and care of your elderly aunt. I am sorry to learn of your upsetting experience as this is not what we would expect for our patients or their relative and carers. May I ask that you contact the Patient Relations Department in respect of this to allow the Trust to look at your concerns on a more formal level.
