"Absolutely disgusted"

About: East Surrey Hospital

Anything else?

I have literally just returned home from dropping off my wife who has crohns disease to the surgical assessment unit - as requested by her specialist who insisted that she was admitted. I dropped my wife off at 2.30pm I then went to pick up my kids, feed them and then returned to let them see their mother. We got there at 6pm and found my wife in terrible pain still sat where I had left her. The nurses on the ward were very sympathetic but were unable to contact the other ward by phone to arrange a bed. Now firstly bear in mind the other ward was at most 50m away and I even offered to go down there and force someone to answer the phone and was literally laughed at when I suggested that the nurse popped down there. It is now 8.35pm my wife has pulled 2 chairs together to make a bed so she can curl up and try to ease the pain. This is absolutely disgusting and I will be telling all and sundry exactly whats going on in this hospital!

I saw your comment yesterday and the Chief Nurse for surgery, Jamie, and I spoke briefly about it last night. We are very concerned to read about your wife's experience here and we would very much like to look into this. Jamie has asked the Matron in chrage of this area to investigate straight away, and he would find it extremely useful to talk to you too. As this site is anonymous, if you like to discuss this matter further plesae can you contact our Chief Nurse for Surgery, Jamie Moore with your contcat details. Jamie.moore@sash.nhs.uk. Many thanks and sorry you and your wife have not had a good experience. Eloise Clarke, Head of Communications. 01737 768511 ext 6199.
