"My elderly father was brought ..."

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

(as a relative),

What I liked

My elderly father was brought in via ambulance with pain in his abdomen/chest. He was seen promptly by the staff within A&E and I was very happy with his treatment there, although we did seem to be waiting forever - forgiveable as I know they're very busy. He was then transferred to the Medical Assessment Ward and the staff there were very helpful and pleasant

What could be improved

I repeatedly told various nurses that my father had a history of gastric bleeds and therefore shouldn't have aspirin/ibuprofen. At A&E they understood this and gave him one initial dose as they felt the benefits outweighed the risks. I explained the same in the Medical Assessment Ward and also explained that my father wouldn't remember his medical history and that they would need to relay this info to the Drs. When he came home he'd been prescribed Aspirin. I questioned this with the Sister, who said it was correct and would be fine. Within 2 days, my father had chronic indigestion (a potential precursor to a stomach bleed) and was moved to another more suitable drug by his GP. PLEASE listen to relatives... we may not have a medical qualification, but we know your patient better than you!!
